Electricity Generation In Gujarat

Gujarat state secure position at number 2 in total electricity generation followed by Maharashtra. Total GDP of Gujarat from electricity generation around 8 % per annul. Total electricity require rate increase by 10 % annul so Gujarat is capable to generate power that cover total load demand of Gujarat. Gujarat’s population around 6.30 crore in 2016, which include 58 % Rural population and 42 % Urban population. Population rate increase at high rate 19 % per decade. GDP rate of Gujarat increase around 7 %.Total area cover in Gujarat state around 1.96 Lakh square kilometres that cover 6 % of total India. Total electricity consumer in Gujarat at Agriculture level, industry level, transportation Level, and Domestic level around 10,617,437. Gujarat exports total 89 % diamonds, 79 % processed diamonds, 35 % petroleum products, 32 % chemical and also include 9 % Engineer industries of India.

            Renewable electricity production handled in Gujarat by GEDA. Generation of electricity from Lignite, Coal, Wood, Crude oil and petroleum products, Small hydro power plants, Solar, Nuclear power, Bio fuels, Petrol, LNG, Natural gas, Diesel, Wind energy, Tidal energy, Kerosene, CNG. GSECL, GPCL, Independent Power Production responsible behind generation of electricity in Gujarat. Transmission in Gujarat state provide by GETCO. Distribution done by PGVCL, MGVCL, DGVCL, UGVCL, ASPEN, Torrent Power, MPSEZ, KPT and Adani Power Ltd in Gujarat. These utilities responsible behind very good electricity generation graph. Gujarat Electricity Board unbundled Gujarat’s electricity department into few utility at 1st April 2005.

Total Power plant installed capacity of Gujarat around 37,200 MW that’s include renewable energy installed capacity around 11,000 MW, Nuclear power plant installed capacity around 450 MW, Thermal Power Plant’s installed capacity around 23,800 MW, Hydro Power Plant’s installed capacity around 2000 MW.

             Up to 2029-2030 Gujarat’s Coal fired power plant capacity will reach up to 14 GW. Thermal Power capacity covers about 69.1 % of Gujarat’s total generation capacity. Total Coal fired thermal power plant’s installed capacity around 15 GW include 1.6 GW of Lignite fired Thermal Power plant. Gujarat is one of the fewest states who has Lignite. Gujarat imported coal by rail from Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand. Total transportation of coal by rail around 1500 km. In Gujarat coal fired power plant total sector dominated by privet limited sector. Total generation from private coal fired thermal power plant around 1500 MW.

            Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. Owned around whole market of government sector’s coal fired power plant of Gujarat. Total Generation of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd around 4150 MW, and also increased in future. Around 80 % of GSECL’s Power plants are operational coal fired capacity is on out-dated, and also producing more pollution than new power plants. Coal fire thermal power plant like Ukai thermal power plant, Sikka thermal power plant and Gandhingar thermal power plant commissioned more than 30 year ago. GSECL’s more than 2 coal fired power plants in under construction.

            Gujarat cover around 25 % of total gas fired power plants generation of India. Total installed capacity of gas fired power plant of Gujarat around 6500 MW. Gas fired power plant provide more flexibility than Coal fired thermal power plant and even easy to operate. Gujarat with its already existing expansive gas fired thermal power plant compare infrastructure and even on great stage take lead of large variable renewable energy generation and its transmission and construction.
